Nanaimo
Obviously founded in the end of 1893. The minutes of Dec 30, 1894 show that a room
owned by A. Huhtanen was rented for church ceremonies. A church was erected in 1899 on a
lot donated by "the company" (terms: the property should never be sold) in the
corner of Victoria Road and Milton Street. It is now owned by "Plymouth Brethren
Congregation" (in 1973). It was sold Aug 23, 1937 (there was no activity in the
congregation after 1921) and most of the money was given to some Finnish societies in the
area. The church probably never joined any Synod and must be considered independent. About
50 members in 1893 (Nainamo: over 30; North Field: abt. 20).

Church work started in the end of 1920s. A Finnish and Swedish Finn church was founded in
1946 and it joined the United Lutheran Church in America (ULCA) at the same time. Left
UCLA in 1949.
