| The cemetery is the only independent Roman Catholic cemetery still in
use in Finland. City of Turku gave the area to be used as a cemetery for
soldiers of the Russian army in 1887. The Greek Orthodox parish of Turku
got the cemetery in 1927. Later the Roman Catholic parish of Turku,
founded in 1926, asked the City to have the cemetery. The City agreed and
the Roman Catholic parish bought the area which was dedicated in 1936.
The oldest grave marker is the one of captain Vladimir Nikolajevitsch Lvov died in 1902. But there is also a marker from 1860's (Constantin Salamalin (?), d. 1863?), which may be moved from somewhere else. There is at least one Greek Orthodox grave in the cemetery.
